Age of Romaticism

Literacy was huge for women during this time. The French Revolution started an idealistic change in peoples minds and  gave women and others  a reason to speak up about their views.  People wanted change and they wanted it to happen now. Women where tired of being treated unfairly. It was during this time women stood and spoke up for themselves and their opinions about the way they have lived their lives, demanding that their should be a change. Mary Wollstonecraft published A Vindication of the Rights of Women, a response to another author who was against anything changing in favor of the women. She writes about how women have been denied their full capacity. When this was published it was widespread in the community, because not only was she speaking up for women, but she was also a woman speaking up against a man's ideals! This itself characterizes a woman's role during this time.
