"The Age of Romanticism" Response

Politically, revolution birthed Romanticism. The French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution caused much change. This was reflected in literature along with how people philosophically viewed the world. Even though women didn't have many rights during this time period, their ideas and opinions were able to be published. Women showed that imagination and intellect were not only for men and that women were very capable when it came to literature. Some of the works mentioned in the overview were Jane Austen's novels, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and Charlotte Smith's Elegiac Sonnets. My perception of Romantic Women Writers is that they were brilliant and deserve to be read as much as their male counterparts.
